The warmth of the wood and the soothing sound of the flywheel in the water tank make indoor training a unique experience: the amount of water in the tank simulates the weight of the boat and crew, so changing the water level does not change the resistance, but the mass that the rower must move. More water therefore simulates a heavier boat and crew, less simulates a lighter boat. A water level gauge is mounted on the outside of the tank, below the computer.
